On the hunt for terror suspects, investigators of the German BKA
propose to the German government to spy out private homes with hidden cameras, catch W-Lan-Communication and intercept telephone calls even if the participants are not accused.
The investigators argue for a fundamental change of the existing law to allow a “covert search with hidden cameras” of suspicious homes. The police regulations of the countries shall also be uniformly arranged, so that officials can preventive intercept telephone calls, even if the affected still had no suspects.
In addition, because previous terrorists repeatedly used unprotected WLAN Access Points from private persons to communicate with functionaries of the “Islamic Jihad Union” (IJU) in Pakistan, the police chiefs want to install nationwide also called W-Lan-Catcher. The devices are used to simulate an access point with Internet connection and allow it to monitor and analyze traffic data.
Until now this idea is only favored by the conservative party CDU , others like the social SPD and the green party ‘Die Gruenen‘ disapprove. Let’s see what the future brings.
